Privacy Policy
This policy explains what we collect when you use Fern, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep it as plain as we can.
1. Who we are
Fern is a product of LOOPLABS TECHNOLOGIES INC. (“LoopLabs,” “we,” “us”). Where this policy refers to the data controller responsible for your information, it means LoopLabs. You can reach us any time at ask@loop.com.ph.
Registered address: Unit 707 Avida One Park Drive, 11th Drive corner 9th Avenue, Fort Bonifacio, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City, Philippines.
2. Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run the service:
- Account details — if you sign in, we use “Log in with Google” as our login method. When you sign in this way, Google shares basic profile information with us, such as your name, email address, and profile picture. We do not receive your Google password.
- Content you provide — the topics, notes, and files you submit so Fern can build a study session. This includes sessions you build before creating an account: they are stored against an anonymous identifier in a cookie, are deleted automatically within two days, and are moved into your account only if you choose to sign up and save them.
- Usage data — how you interact with the site, collected automatically (see Analytics below).
- Device data — basic technical information such as browser type, approximate region, and IP address.
3. Analytics & cookies
We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used so we can improve it. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as pages visited, time on page, and general location. This data is processed by Google on our behalf; see Google’s Privacy Policy for details. You can opt out using the Google Analytics opt-out add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser.
We also use Ahrefs Web Analytics, which tells us which pages people arrive on and which sites send them to us. Like Google Analytics it runs across the whole site and records the page address, the site you came from, and a general location. It is never sent the contents of your notes, your study sessions, or your answers. You can block it in your browser the same way you would any other analytics script.
We also use the Meta (Facebook) Pixel to measure how well our advertising works — for example, whether someone who saw an ad later visited us, tried a study session, or created an account. It runs on our public pages and on the single page shown immediately after you create an account; it does not run anywhere else inside the app, so it is never told your study session contents, your profile, or what you do once you are using Fern. Where it runs it sets cookies and reports the visit to Meta, which may match it to a Facebook or Instagram account if you have one. The events we send are limited to the fact that a page was viewed, that a trial session was built, and that an account was created — never the topic you studied, the file you uploaded, or any identifier for your account. You can limit this in your Facebook ad preferences, through Meta’s off-Facebook activity controls, or by blocking cookies in your browser.
4. How we use your information
- To generate and deliver the study sessions you request.
- To operate, maintain, and improve the service.
- To respond to your questions and support requests.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
- To email you about your account — a single welcome message when you sign up, and service messages about your sessions. We do not send marketing email. Your address is confirmed by Google when you sign in, so we never ask you to confirm it again.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. Sharing
We share information only with service providers who help us run Fern (for example, hosting and analytics providers such as Google), and only to the extent needed for them to perform their work. We may also disclose information if required by law.
Email we send you is delivered by Resend, which receives your email address and the contents of that message for that purpose alone.
6. Payments
Fern is currently free to use. We do not operate a payment processor and do not collect any card or billing information at this time. If we introduce paid plans in the future, we will update this policy and describe how payment data is handled before any charge is made.
7. Data retention
We keep your information only as long as needed to provide the service and for legitimate operational or legal purposes. You can ask us to delete your account and associated content at any time.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these, email us at ask@loop.com.ph.
10. Children
Fern is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will remove it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you.
